Lots of gardeners choose centipede grass for their lawns as it requires only minimum maintenance.
It is a special type of slow growing grass that is perfectly adapted to the acidic and sandy soils, that is why it's so popular in particular regions of the country. This sort of grass is widely used in the parks and tennis courts, and it is so easy to grow and take care of that you have to be an extremely lazy person to fail in centipede grass maintenance. It does not take more than three month to create a great lawn of green and healthy centipede grass.

Centipede grass refers sunny locations and tolerates moderate shades. As for the soil, it has to be acidic, because alkaline type of soil will prevent this grass from thriving due to the iron deficiency. Also, the soil should not contain too much of phosphorous. Do not expect any beautiful performance from centipede grass in heavy shades or in a drought.
Before planting the seeds, the soil should be properly fertilized. Put one pound of a good fertilize per one thousand square feet. It should be a low-nitrogen fertilizer without any potassium or phosphorus.
Also do not forget to water the lawn on a regular basis, especially for two to three weeks after planting (it should be slightly moist all the time).
Watering in spring is hardly required, but make sure to water your lawn properly from the beginning of summer and during the hottest time of the year. Provide your lawn with one inch of water every week until the beginning of winter, when the centipede grass is going dormant.
Start mowing your centipede grass when it is completely established. Mowing should be performed approximately once a week, but do not stress your grass even more if it's already stressed by the drought.
Do not allow the centipede grass to grow too big, otherwise it will have rather untidy look and you will have to experience difficulties mowing. This grass should be mowed to one and half to two inched in height.
Do not forget about fertilization in summer: the only thing you will have o do is to apply one pound of ow-nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus free fertilizer per one thousand square feet of soil.
In case your lawn doe not turn green but gets more and more yellow instead, spray the grass with a chelated iron. It will help the grass return its natural bright green color. If the pH of the soil is less than 5.0, make sure to apply the lime.
One more advantage of the centipede lawn care is that it is almost weeds free, and it's also known as disease resistant variety.
So, if your schedule does not leave you too much time for the lawn care, choosing the centipede grass is the best option for you.
